Information and interpretation
raise the general awareness for
the quality of landscapes
and
thus the number of supporters
Offering information and interpretation on a site has to correspond to the various and sometimes contradictory needs and interests of visitors as well as to the priority to maintain the beauty and tranquillity of a garden.
Which information is essential to understand the idea of a garden, its elements, history and its qualities?
Which other information should be available on request?
Which media, tools and formats can be used accordingly?
How should a consistent information system to be used on the site and to attract and guide visitors to a garden look like?
The French partner has carried out a comprehensive survey within the gardens in Pays de la Loire to know more about existing information and interpretation facilities. Based on this survey and the comments and additional information given by the partners, a list of priorities for enhancements has been set up and a brief for consultants to design innovative concepts and tools has been discussed and agreed. The brief requires considering traditional tools (leaflets, signs etc.) as well as new media (interactive info terminals etc.). Concepts and designs for new information and interpretation tools need to give some flexibility to implement site specific solutions while ensuring a consistent EGHN corporate design.
